Graduate Student Corner: Cheers from the Graduate Student Social Hour! - Kate Thomas
It is exciting to be writing on the heels of such a
great conference. And it is especially exciting to be writing on behalf of the
students, who were such a big part of the success and enjoyment of this year’s
conference at Yale University. Student presenters represented over half of the
total conference presentations this year, and set the tone for their high
quality. It was incredible rewarding to learn so much from our peers, student
and non-student alike!
After the poster presentations on Friday, students and Keynote Speaker David Kenny headed to the nearby Ordinary Bar, where we enjoyed conversations as good as the cocktails. The opportunity provided us a chance to get to know students from universities across the North America and Europe. It was also a pleasure for us to spend time with David, who spent his career building the statistical models that we use as we begin our careers. It was an honor and pleasure for us to spend time with him and with one another before heading to our equally enjoyable dinner at the Yale Graduate Club.
Events like the graduate student social in particular, and the conference experience in general, are wonderful reminders of one of what I love about SITAR – we come from diverse theoretical and geographical locations, but we connect on our shared desire to work (agency) together (communion).
