A Message from SITAR President – Nicole Cain
Greetings SITAR Members!
The 18th Annual Meeting of the Society for Interpersonal Theory and Research (SITAR) in Toronto featured keynote talks by Tom Hollenstein and Geoff MacDonald and presentations from interpersonal researchers from several countries with interests spanning multiple disciplines. Member generosity provided for significant student travel grants, which paid off in the form of a series of high quality student presentations. Among these was Sarah Dermody’s Wiggins Award winning presentation on applying time-varying effects models to momentary interpersonal data, which she discusses in this issue of the Newsletter. On behalf of the Executive Council (EC), I extend my sincere thanks to host Marc Fournier and his colleagues, as well as all of our attendees, for contributing to such a successful conference.
Several important developments within SITAR followed the Toronto meeting. First, the membership voted to elect Aidan Wright to be the Vice President of the Society. Aidan has been a member of SITAR for many years, has served the society in numerous leadership roles, and has been a highly visible interpersonal researcher. Congratulations, Aidan!
Second, there were some transitions and additions on the EC and committee roster. Thane Erickson joined the EC as a Member-at Large, in addition to his role on the Graduate Student Advisory Committee (GSAC). Many thanks for your service, Thane! In addition, Kate Thomas stepped down as our Graduate Student Representative (GSR) on the GSAC. Please join me in thanking Kate for her work as GSR! As a result of Kate finishing her term as GSR, it is now time to begin the process of selecting the next student representative. If any students are interested in this position, please see the GSAC’s announcement in this Newsletter for more information on how to apply. I am very grateful to the entire EC and committee members for their service, and am excited about the future contributions of our newest additions!
Finally, I am pleased to announce that SITAR 2016 will be held in Berlin, Germany during the last weekend of July (July 29th & 30th, 2016). Johannes Zimmermann will serve as our local host. Aidan Wright will serve as Program Chair. This conference will mark SITAR’s return to Europe! You can find further details about the upcoming conference in this Newsletter. I hope to see you all in Berlin!
