Announcement from the Graduate Student Advisory Committee
Travel grant donations
Gentiana Sadikaj & Thane Erickson
The Graduate Student Advisory Committee (GSAC) would like to thank the SITAR membership for their generous and continuous support of the student travel award program. We reached our fundraising goal of USD 1,500 with $766 in donations from members and $736 in funds supplied by SITAR. In addition, 3 conference registration fee waivers were also provided by the SITAR (USD 300 each). Thanks to this support, we were able to accommodate a high number of applications from graduate students coming from North America and Europe. As every year since the beginning of this program, our goal as GSAC is to provide traveling support to the largest number of graduate students possible. While we acknowledge that some of the travel grants awarded are small relative to the costs associated with attending the SITAR annual meeting, it is our hope that the program is succeeding in achieving its mission; that is, to support graduate student development, among other by facilitating the exchange of research ideas and the dissemination of graduate student research. Last but not least, the GSAC would like to thank Dr. Markey for taking care of the practical issues related to the award program and disbursing the awards on behalf of the GSAC.
