A Message from SITAR President - Christopher Hopwood
The 17th Annual
Meeting of the Society for Interpersonal Theory and Research (SITAR) in New
Haven featured keynote talks by Geraldine Downey and David Kenny, a tribute to
Sid Blatt, and presentations from trainee and faculty interpersonal researchers
from several countries with backgrounds spanning multiple areas within and
outside of psychology. Member generosity provided for significant student
travel grants which paid off in the form of a series of high quality student
presentations. Among these was Kelly McDonald’s Wiggins Award winning poster on
the impact of social anxiety on affiliative reciprocity, which she discusses in
this issue of the Newsletter. On behalf of the Executive Council (EC), I extend
my sincere thanks to host Emily Ansell and her colleagues, as well as
attendees, for contributing to such a successful conference.
Several important developments within SITAR followed the New Haven meeting. First, the membership voted to elect Johannes Zimmermann to be the Vice President of the Society. Johannes has been a highly visible interpersonal researcher, and has contributed to SITAR in a number of ways, perhaps most noticeably as our website “committee” (N=1). Congratulations, Johannes!
Second, there was some shuffling and additions to the committee roster. Mark Lukowitsky joined the EC as a member-at large, in addition to his role as Newsletter Editor. Many thanks for your service, Mark. The EC also established an Awards Committee, who will be responsible for overseeing the Wiggins Award process and discussing the possibility of new Awards. Nicole Cain has agreed to chair this committee, which will also include Lumina Albert and Emily Ansell. Finally, Thane Erickson agreed to join the Graduate Student Advisory Committee, chaired by Genta Sadikaj. I am very grateful to the entire EC and committee members for their service, and am excited about the future contributions of our new members.
Finally, I am pleased to announce that SITAR 2015 will be held in Toronto, Ontario during the last weekend of May. Marc Fournier and his staff have graciously agreed to host, and have identified a highly desirable venue in the heart of the city for our meeting. You can find further details from Program Chair Nicole Cain in this newsletter. See you in Toronto!
