A Message from SITAR President, Sandro Sodano
Hello SITAR
members!
I am delighted to be delivering this first newsletter column as President of SITAR. As the Program Chair of the 16th Annual Meeting of SITAR in Park City, Utah, I wanted to take a moment to again thank our conference host, Timothy Smith, along with the Psychology Department and students of the University of Utah for the generous hospitality that was provided. The Annual Meeting along with the Festschrift for Lorna Smith Benjamin that preceded it made for a very memorable conference experience this year. In addition, I would like to thank everyone who contributed presentations (talks and posters) to the SITAR conference program. It was quite gratifying to preside over a program with such quality presentations.
Looking ahead to our next conference, the 17th Annual Meeting of SITAR will be held in New Haven, Connecticut, at Yale University (June 6th and 7th, 2014). Our on-site conference host will be Emily Ansell and the Program Chair will be Christopher Hopwood. Further details about the upcoming conference are provided in this issue.
We hope to see you at the next meeting. Please keep in mind that when you bring students and or colleagues with you to the annual meetings, you are helping to promote the growth of SITAR and thus contributing to the future of the organization. If you cannot attend this year’s meeting, please consider submitting a proposal with a member, or members, of your research team who can attend the meeting. In addition, I would like to mention that the Conference Announcement can easily be circulated among colleagues and professional acquaintances. I also encourage you to forward to SITAR’s Membership Committee the name(s) and contact information of anyone outside of SITAR who might be interested in attending the annual meeting. With this information, the Membership Committee can send out a personalized invitation from SITAR, which will include the Call for Proposals.
It continues to be a busy, yet exciting time for the Executive Council of SITAR. I am pleased to announce the installation of a new officer as well as new members of the Executive Council. First, I would like to extend my congratulations to Nicole Cain for being elected Vice President of SITAR. With Nicole’s election as Vice President, a vacancy was left for a new member-at-large, which Aidan Wright has agreed to fill. Aidan has served as SITAR’s Graduate Student Representative and more recently he has been a member of the Membership Committee. In addition, Daniel Leising has decided to step down from the Executive Council, but will remain a member of the Graduate Student Advisory Committee (GSAC). I’d like to thank Daniel for his work on the Executive Council and for his continued work with the GSAC. Daniel’s move from the Executive Council left another vacancy for a new member-at-large, which Gentiana Sadikaj has agreed to fill. Gentiana has also been a member of the Membership Committee. Both Gentiana and Aidan have been regular presenters at SITAR’s annual meetings, beginning as graduate students. I am pleased to now be welcoming them onto to the Executive Committee.
Mike Roche recently stepped down from his role as SITAR’s Graduate Student Representative (GSR) and a new representative was sought. I am pleased to announce that Kate Thomas of Michigan State University has been appointed the new GSR. I offer Kate a hearty welcome onto the Executive Council. This last announcement is about a change that is currently happening. It is time for Nicole Cain to step down as SITAR’s Newsletter Editor. Please join me in thanking Nicole for her work as Newsletter Editor. As a result of Nicole finishing her term as Editor, it is now time to begin the process of selecting the next Editor. If anyone is interested in becoming the Newsletter Editor, please send a statement of interest to me (Sandro Sodano) by December 1st, 2013.
In wrapping-up this column, it would be incomplete without me saying what an honor it is to be at the helm of SITAR this year. I look forward to working with the new and returning members of the Executive Council as well as with the student and professional membership. Best wishes to all in the upcoming year!
